Fast Food Rubbish - More needs to be done say Green Councillors

Green District Councillors are calling for more to be done to stem the persistant problem of fast food rubbish being thrown from cars which ends up littering rural roads miles from the source.

New Essex Waste Plan to 2031 Still Proposes Burning Waste

The Essex County Council/Southend Borough consultation on the Essex Waste Development Document closed yesterday (2nd December). Essex Green Party Co-ordinator James Abbott has submitted a detailed response to the hundreds of pages of documents (available on request). The Waste Document is the early stage of developing a replacement to the Essex Waste Plan. But despite the huge progress in Essex on recycling, the new Plan, which runs to the year 2031, still includes waste burning.

Silver End Village Hall - Future More Secure

At a meeting of the Braintree District Council Overview and Scrutiny Committee last night (Wednesday 27th October), a senior officer of the District Council stated that closure of Silver End Village Hall would not take place and confirmed that there was no policy that justified closure of Silver End Village Hall, which is a well used facility that covers its running costs.

There is to be a by-election on Thurday 21st October to fill a vacancy on Witham Town Council.

The Green Party candidate is Joyce Wells. Joyce has lived in Witham South Ward for many years. She is a nurse working in the NHS. Joyce is keen to get more involved in community issues and help residents.

Survey of residents, part 2, shows even greater opposition to proposed Rivenhall Growth Location of 300 houses

The second part of a survey of residents has found that of 170 people who took part in north east Witham, just 1 supports the Rivenhall Growth Location in the Braintree District Council Local Development Framework Core Strategy.

Silver End Village Hall - BDC Cabinet offers short term reprieve but prolongs the long term uncertainty

The Cabinet of Braintree District Council tonight agreed to change its policy on fees at Silver End village hall and introduce a blanket £2 per hour increase instead of the draconian increases of up to 150% previously proposed.

Silver End Village Hall petition to be handed in to Braintree District Council with 836 names

A petition organised by Silver End District Councillors James Abbott and Philip Hughes regarding Silver End village hall is now complete. It contains 836 names. The petition calls on Braintree District Council to halt its proposed hall fee increases and to retain the management of Silver End village hall so that local groups can continue to use the hall and so that the hall can be improved for the future.

The Green Party in Essex has welcomed the decision by the BAA to withdraw its planning application for a second runway at Stansted Airport, and a third runway at Heathrow.
