We would like to thank all those who voted Green at the recent General Election in Braintree and Witham constituencies.
Although the result was not as we had hoped for, we are grateful for the goodwill shown by many people towards Green ideas and policies and we enjoyed the election, especially the local hustings meetings organised by the churches.
Congratulations to Brookes Newmark and Priti Patel on their election as MPs for Braintree and Witham.
A feature of the campaign was the growing support for electoral reform. We received hundreds of e-mails during the election from voters calling for a change to the voting system and for wider reforms to the political system.
We join with the other parties supporting electoral reform and sincerely hope that a proportional system is in place at the next election so that everyone can vote for what they believe in, rather than feel the need to vote tactically.
There are PR systems that elect local MPs, but where the overall result mirrors the actual votes cast for each party - as is the case in many European countries and in the elections for the Scottish Parliament and London Assembly.
Yours
