Woodland habitat
These images show the woodland and habitat at Rivenhall Airfield that would be destroyed if the waste site is built. This area is a proven rich local wildlife habitat with about 70 species of birds using the mix of woodland and surrounding grassland and hedges. There are also at least 4 species of bats in the trees and old WW2 buildings. There are also rich populations of BAP species including brown hares.
This quiet area would be replaced by a 24/7 regional waste site creating noise and light pollution, fumes and potentially poisonous emissions.
The old airfield is currently a quiet area used by local people for walks, flying kites and model aircraft and for watching wildlife. It is both a place for quiet recreation and an important historical site, with many scattered old WW2 buildings still standing.
